Resin Floor For An Office Environment
With staff located in 5 different offices, the fast expanding architectural practice of Allies & Morrison decided
to design their own ideal office space, bringing everyone under one roof. The resulting building in Southwark has generated considerable interest in the trade press conveying to clients a real impression
of the firm's style. With plans for the entire ground floor area to be used as a reception and meeting
space, Ryebrook Resins was contracted to lay a resin floor that would be hard-wearing and easy to
keep clean, yet aesthetically attractive, providing a modern backdrop to the dramatic spiral staircase
leading up to the three office floors above.
Ryebrook's Flooring Solution
"Traditionally the use of resin floors has been restricted to plant rooms, commercial kitchens and
healthcare facilities etc. comments Managing Director for Ryebrook, Tony Hills. However, we are
seeing a definite trend towards less industrial settings with for example, more installations involving
office buildings, museums and schools. With a choice of 20 different colourways, a high impact,
modern design can be created by laying contrasting bands or combining with a terrazzo or quartz
finish. Resin has many benefits over other floor finishes. Being seamless the final result is visually
attractive yet simple to clean and with better resistance to impact and abrasion, a resin floor looks good for longer.
The Flooring Process
After mechanical grinding of the existing concrete base to clean and key the area, Ryebrook Resins first laid the epoxy primer Ryeprime to an area totalling approximately 500m² that included the
reception, toilets and landings.
The Floor Screed Finish
Ryeflor MD, a self-smoothing polyurethane screed with a matt finish was then laid at a thickness of
4mm, effectively creating a seamless floor finish that combined practicality with aesthetic impact.
